Oh Madison…you are magnificently marvelous and every season, in fact every day, we find reasons to love you more. I may have been born and raised here, yet I find something magical about this area hiding around every corner, nestled in nooks of buildings and even strolling through our parks.
From stunning foliage and breathtaking bike rides to the passionate chants for our hometown sports teams, this fall, Madison captured an even bigger piece of our hearts.
Go for a Bike Ride
With the addition of Madison B-cycle
, biking around downtown Madison has become even easier. Enjoy the beautiful fall landscape while riding around. There are 39 stations
so you can get on a bike and ride it clear across town, dock it and get where you need to be. For just $5 for one day of unlimited rides for up to 30 minutes, you get where you’re going while taking in the sites.
Since Madison is known as the bike capital of the Midwest, we boast some amazing trails for biking. The Capital City State Trail
takes you through the city part of Madison as well as the scenic Capital Springs State Recreation Area. Just six miles south of Madison is Fitchburg where you can find the Quarry Ridge
trail suited for the beginning biker to the seasoned expert.
Take in the Foliage
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum
is the perfect place to take in the true natural beauty of our city. There are over 1,200 acres of wetlands, forests, and prairies to explore including the world famous lilac collection. Trails are open daily from 7:00am to 10:00pm with tours offered throughout the day.
With over 1,000 miles of path to walk in the Ice Age National Scenic Trail
, one could explore the area for an entire lifetime and discover something new during every visit. Sculpted thousands of years ago by glacial ice, the trail is a unique experience. Many say they feel rejuvenated both literally and figuratively after they experience the Ice Age Trail.
Located just above Lake Mendota, Cherokee Marsh
is a hidden gem. There are over 2,000 acres of gorgeous wetlands with trails and a boardwalk. Entrance is always free and with the ever-changing typography you could discover something new every year.
Feast Your Eyes on Your Favorite Sports Team
We love our sports here in Madison (go Badgers!) but fall sports hold a special place in my heart. With the weather just turning crisp, going to a University of Wisconsin football game
is the perfect weekend activity – there’s a reason we have been voted the number one college football town
. Bring the entire family and watch the Badgers break records and bring home a victory! And don’t forget to check out the public tailgating at Union South! The Badger Bash
is Madison’s largest and longest-running public tailgating party at UW-Madison.
For those of you more partial to a rink and skates, hockey season is just beginning and the Madison Capitols
are looking to have a great season ahead of them!
